Lance Engle
When I first wrote Lance, I didn’t like him. I didn’t really know what it was about him, but I didn’t like him. He was a side character who did what he needed to do, and then he just quietly stayed in the background like a good boy. So when Damon started shouting about his book, suffice to say I was quite shocked at who his love interest was. Find out how Lance became one of my favorite characters by reading on!
Lance Engle. Hacker extraordinaire. But not nearly as good as Robby from the Crane Mafia. Lance did his job and he was good at it, but that’s all I ever really needed him for. Doing a job. Playing a part. Helping Alex and Josh out when they needed him to. Other than that, Lance stayed in his own world. We didn’t talk about an upcoming book with him. Nothing.
But then Damon came along and gave Lance the voice I never knew he had. In fact, I’m not totally sure Lance knew he had it either. I think he was happy being quiet and in the background. Even when I started planning out my Lucinio Family series, Lance was silent.
Turns out, it’s because he knew that Damon would talk for him. Damon would tell me everything I needed to know about the love of his life. And Lance would sit there and smile the entire time. He’d let Damon take the lead because that was Damon’s job.
I found out a lot about Lance. He doesn’t like taking the lead unless he feels empowered to do it by Damon. He doesn’t like conflict, but he’ll do whatever he has to do to protect those he loves. He might prefer to be behind the scenes, but he’s not one to be counted out. He’s just as dangerous as anyone else in the mafia family he’s a part of. Just as loyal, fierce, and protective.
And when it comes to his heart and their adopted daughter, there’s nothing he wouldn’t do.
I’m so in love with Lance and Damon as a couple. When I wrote Encrypting My Heart, Lance did come out of his shell a little bit, but Damon was still the one who talked for him. I’m so proud of the way his story turned out, and I hope that you all love it just as much!
