Damon Knight

When I first wrote Billion Dollar Love Story, I had no intention of writing other books. My intention was that I would write the one, see how people reacted to it, and move on. I figured people would hate the book and I’d have it out of my system. That isn’t what happened at all, and Damon went through one HUGE revitalization. Want to find out what it was? Read on to find out.

In Billion Dollar Love Story, Damon Knight was a side character. He was Alex’s friend. He worked with him, ran missions with him, and was basically ride or die with him. If Alex said jump, Damon trusted him without question and jumped. I had planned for everyone to have their happy ending in Billion Dollar Love Story. Damon ended up with Layla. He married her. Happily ever after.

Interestingly enough, that’s not how it ended up playing out. I ended up writing an entire series for the Crane Family, and when the Lucinio Family came out, I realized that so much about the Crane Family needed to change. How could Damon be married to Layla when that simply wasn’t his story? That’s not the story he wanted to be told.

As many of my characters have, Damon wanted his own story told. And he wasn’t having any part of me wanting anything my way. Nope. Damon refused. And while he was talking about his life, I decided that Damon didn’t just want his own story. He needed it. Damon was an integral part of the Lucinio Mafia. He wasn’t just a part of Alex’s crew. He was Josh’s third-in-command.

And he was fucking ruthless…

With Damon’s help, or rather his violent shove, I went right into the deep end with his book and explored darker depths than I have in any of my others. And it was all because of him and who he is. Damon is a good man, but when his family or his love gets involved, all bets are off. While this is like all of the other men I’ve written, what differed with Damon is that he didn’t even attempt to hide his darkness.

And his darkness ended up all over the pages of Encrypting My Heart…
