Blake Falcon

Blake Falcon, like many of my characters, didn’t turn out exactly as I’d imagined. But I did my best with what I had to work with. When I first thought of his story, I’d intended on him being a firefighter in Colorado who meets the love of his life during complete chaos. A forest fire is bearing down on them, but so is her psychotic ex. That changed a lot. To find out how, read on!

Colorado. Somewhere near Vale. A small town with a big heart. Less than five hundred people where everyone knew everyone. There were a couple of hot hangouts, and no one got in anyone else’s business, even though everyone knew everyone’s business. I don’t know why, but that all sounds like the most amazing place on Earth. That’s what I pictured for the town for this book.

But this book is part of a multi-author series, and things definitely changed. I didn’t mind, but with it, my entire book changed. Blake was supposed to be a well-respected man in my little town. Someone everyone knew they could go to for help. Including the pretty new girl.

What happened was Ignite My Fire ended up taking place in Texas in a town with a lot more people than I intended. And Blake’s love interest didn’t end up being who I thought. Instead of my sweet small-town romance, what I ended up with was an angsty small-town, best friend’s little sister, friends-to-lovers romance.

Instead of Blake being the sweet guy I intended, he ended up being a serious pain in my ass. I’m fairly certain it’s because his story didn’t get told the way he wanted it to so he had to show off his asshole side.

The result is actually a character who turned out to be one of my favorites. Somehow by the end of the story, Blake turned out to be exactly who I wanted him to be. He had a lot of redeeming to do, but I ended up loving him when I started out wanting to slap him.
