Hunter Steele
I’ve always wanted to write a story about a coach falling for one of his players. I actually have future plans for something along those lines, but in this case, yeah, I really wanted a coach/player forbidden romance, and once I developed Kody, Hunter really started to come out, but his voice was a little bit hard to hear. Want to know why? Read on to find out!
I don’t honestly think I’ve struggled to hear a character as much as I struggled to hear Hunter. It was almost like he was there just staring at me, not actually saying anything. Like he expected me to just know what I was doing, and how he wanted his story to be.
It actually wasn’t until I’d fully decided how Kody’s story would go when Hunter finally started talking. Suddenly, I knew just what I needed to do with him. The issue is that he wasn’t exactly forthcoming. He was quiet with me.
And that’s when I realized what he wanted. Hunter is the silent protector. Kody is his number one priority, and he’ll do whatever is necessary to protect him. But he’s the shadow in the background. The one who only comes out when he’s needed. He watches everything; observes and makes calculated moves.
He’s as good with calculated moves off the field as he was on it, and I love that so much about him. Even in the last book of this series, I really tried to portray him as that same strong, silent, brooding, calculated type.
I really love Hunter. What do you guys think about him?
