Dane Michaels

There’s nothing better than a dominant man who wears a gun and a badge. Add in the fact that he works for the mafia, and I’m sold, but just to add a little bit more allure, why not make him a brother to the Mafia King himself? Yep. That sounds like the perfect combination. Read on to find out just how it all came to be.

So, Dane has been around for a while. I needed a Sergeant and best friend in the department for Taylor Reddick, my cop in the Crane Family Series, that he could trust implicitly. Dane fit the bill perfectly and evolved throughout the series so much that I felt he needed more. 

At the end of the Crane Family Series, we found out that Dane is Josh and Alex Lucinio’s brother. The three of them share a mother. Josh, Alex, and Nick Crane share a father. The relationship between Josh, Alex, and Dane, as well as Dane’s friendship with Taylor, gave me the perfect extra tie to the Crane Mafia that I needed. With Dane, the two mafias were so implicitly combined by family that it made sense for the Crane and Lucinio mafias to become even closer. 

So, by the time I finally got to his book, I couldn’t have been more excited, but it was a mess. I had so many ideas. I thought about him losing a wife, then her coming back, but that was too much Rebekkah. Then, I thought a nasty divorce, but that’s too cliche. Then, I thought an enemies to lovers, but it didn’t feel like Dane. I finally settled on best friends to lovers and threw in a few bumps and bruises. In the end, I feel more in love with Dane!
