Skyla Winters

When I wrote The Running Back’s Forbidden Temptation, I focused mainly on the physical, emotional, and verbal abuse that comes with domestic violence relationship. When I started writing Skyla for Fighting My Fate, I really wanted to dive into more, and Skyla was very much on the same page. To get a little behind the scenes of Skyla’s story, please keep reading. 

Skyla Winters is a truly confident woman. She’s the CFO of a multi-billion international company owned by Alex Lucinio. She has to be tough. No way she could survive in the corporate world Alex built if she weren’t. 

But Skyla has a dark past. On the outside, she appears to be everything a CFO should. Inside, though, is a whole other story. Skyla was in an abusive relationship, but I’ve added other elements that I really wanted to bring attention to. One of my main goals in my writing has always been to shed light onto important things that others just might not feel comfortable touching. 

For Skyla, it was the abuse, but also the fact that she was abused by a narcissistic man who was incredible about gaslighting. It’s difficult to get over that. I also touched slightly on the PTSD the relationship caused her. I felt like it was important to really dive into the after effects of a relationship like that while showing that even through the destruction, a flower can bloom. With enough nurturing and protection, it can withstand anything. 

For Skyla, that came in the form of Dane. Their relationship, while it started just as friends, grew into so much more and was exactly what they both needed. They complimented each other and pushed each other. Despite their pasts and their issues, they were just what the other needed to thrive.
