Matthew Lucinio
Everyone who has read the Crane Family Series or Lucinio Family series knows that Matthew is definitely a bad dude. There are a lot of things he did that made him very much unlikeable and truly evil unredeemable. So, what happens when someone who is so very hated suddenly does something nice? Read on to find out, but WARNING! SPOILERS AHEAD!
Matthew Lucinio. What is there to say about him, really? He’s completely unhinged. He drugged and beat his son. Brainwashed him. He killed Josh’s best friend right in front of him. He was after his other son’s girl. He beat his wife and cheated on her. He had an entire second life with another child. He lied to his kids about who was older and who was younger just so he could choose who got to be his heir and not have to follow traditions. He tried wiping out an entire family of people because he was angry at them for ruining his happiness and making him marry a woman he didn’t love for an alliance he didn’t care about.
Are his actions after that justified? Do we forgive him for being forced to give up the woman who held his heart? He definitely got some sympathy for that, but it’s everything that came afterwards that slowly turned everyone against him. He deserved it. Fully. And when he kidnapped Jessa and Dallas, well, it was even worse. Unforgivable.
But wait. What if we started having things come out about him that sort of shed him in a heroic light? What if he found out Josh had a child, and he decided to leave him alone and protect the child and his mother at all costs? What if, in order to do that, he hired someone he trusted who he thought could help him from a distance? Can we forgive him then?
And then how about we throw more in there? The kidnapping would lead Josh to him and set a plan in motion that he’d concocted before his death. After it was all said and done, what if Matthew was shed in a positive light? Instead of trying to thwart his sons and the Crane Family, what if he tried to help them take down the bad guys who took Josh’s son and tried to kill his son’s mother?
Okay, I’ll be honest. After the Crane Family, that was supposed to be the end of Matthew. The issue is that Matthew had more to tell. And until he finished, he wasn’t going to just die quietly. He was going to make noise until everything he had to say was all laid out.
Matthew knew he wasn’t the best person. He knew he made mistake after mistake. He knew that his mistakes could no longer be called anything but pure evil plans created for the sole reason of hurting others. Everywhere Matthew went, chaos was sure to follow, and he knew that very well.
But there are two sides to every coin. A good for every evil. Tell me what you think. Do you think Matthew has any redeeming qualities, or should he just continue to rest in forever torment in his special place in hell?
