Gavin Vandenberg
Gavin Vandenberg. Rich. Complete snob. Daddy owned his own company and gave Gavin a literal golden spoon to carry around with him. A pacifier made of diamonds. That’s how Gavin was originally supposed to be in my head. Read on to find out what went wrong with that idea!
Gavin, ya’ll. He was always meant to be a side character. Someone on Alex Lucinio’s team. Yeah, he could shoot and kill someone if he needed to, but he came from money. So, blood splatter on his clothes? Fuck. He’d just toss it, walk into a store naked, and buy new clothes. Dangerous side, yes, but it would never cover up the rich, spoiled prick side.
And then I started writing his book. Turns out Gavin is literally nothing like that. There’s a reason he became second in command of the Lucinio Mafia. It’s got nothing to do with how much money is in his bank account and everything to do with his moral compass.
Yep. You guessed it. Gavin is demonic. Well, at least he can be. Regrets? Uh. No. None. None at all. And Marissa? His wife? Well, turns out Gavin didn’t want his story to end with her. So, of course, she had to be killed off. It was the only option. The only way for Gavin to get the HEA he truly deserved.
Honestly, I’m so glad we got to see Gavin’s true self and give him the HEA he wanted because it meant I got to dive deeper into a character I hadn’t actually intended on doing anything with. Gavin is actually part of the reason I wanted to do the Lucinio Family Series. I felt like Alex, Josh, and Gavin all needed their stories told. No. Not needed. They were mandatory.
The more I explored Gavin and his dark side, the more I fell in love with him. Little bit of a secret? Gavin is my new favorite…
What do you think of Gavin’s story? Did your opinion of him change as mine did? Are you glad he got his own story? Let me know in the comments!
